Depending on the scope of the Drupal project, we can tailor this exercise to your budget, but at a bare minimum, creating a well considered site map and taxonomy structure is essential. For highly customised sites, a full set of wireframe designs and user interaction scenarios is likely to be required.
 

While Drupal allows for the quick deployment of a website using a pre-designed theme, most brands will want to customise the graphic design of their website to provide a unique and distinctive user experience. There are a large number of free Drupal 6 themes and Drupal 5 themes available for download from Drupal.org. A range of companies also provide professionally designed Drupal themes for relatively small fees. Working with a predesigned free Drupal theme is an excellent way to get a website to market quickly, and we often use this approach for clients on smaller budgets who don't require a large amount of Drupal theme customisation.

Drupal is typically referred to as a content management "Platform" or "Framework", reflecting the nature of being able to extend Drupal to facilitate almost any imaginable function. In being so extensible, part of the major challenge on any complex Drupal project is to identify the best approach to achieve the project's requirements.
